There are two essential oils included in the perfect
skincare treatment: Coleus forskohlii oil and Tetrahydropipertine. In the right
combination, these compounds act as an efficient tool when combating skin
problems.
Plectranthus barbatus, usually known as Coleus forskohlii or
Indian Coleus, is a tropical perennial flora related to the typical coleus
species. Its kind belongs to the natural order Libiatae (Limiaceae), a family
of lavenders and mints. For thousands of years, this plant has been growing wild in
the sub-tropical areas in Thailand, Burma and India. The Coleus plant has in
these countries been cultivated and served primarily as a seasoning or pickle.
In modern years, Indian Coleus has increased the curiosity
of the medical community, because it is the single identified plant source of
the adeneylate cyclic activating compound, forskolin, that helps the organism
to treat acne naturally.
Forskolin is usually utilized to raise levels of cyclic AMP
(cAMP) in the study and research of cell physiology. Cyclic AMP is an essential
signal carrier that is vital for the right natural response of cell to hormones
and other cellular signals. It is required for cell communication in the
hypothalamus/pituitary gland axis and for the feedback control of hormones.
Forskolin-rich extracts are commercially obtained from the
roots, which also yield a thick dark brown colored vital oil containing a range
of aroma elements that together leave a delightful delicate odor with a spicy
note.
The recent anti-microbial discovery
The oils withdrawn from the Coleus forskohlii plant have
recently been discovered to have anti-microbial qualities for
efficient acneremoval in topical preparations. A specific composition of the oil processed by
a patented procedure is specially efficient when treating Priopionibacterium
acnes. In addition, the composition was found to be active against other
microbes identified to be associated with skin blemishes and eruptions.
In laboratory studies, Coleus oil was found to effectively
control the growth of skin pathogens including Priopionibacterium acnes, Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermis.
Mucocutaneous candidiosis is frequently reported to have
associations with the appearance of acne. Coleus oil has as well been found to
have abilities to control the yeast culture Candida albicans more effectively
than the better known tea tree oil.
Tetrahydropiperine which is an element present in little
quantities in all black pepper fruit is added in a low
concentrations to enhance the permeation of Coleus forskohlii extract and of the other active ingredients. Studies have shown that Coleus
oil extracted from the Indian Coleus plant contains forskolin elements that
help cell communication. The oil also contains anti-bacterial attributes that
prevent you from getting skin blemishes such as acne.
